today lunch will be black eyed peas, rice and homegrown collard greens, i expect it will be wonderful.
soon i will have a new camera and i plan on uploading all of our garden grown foods and my crafty items, i've been quite busy making christmas and now that it's over i have a birthday ( my younger sister) and a baby shower to make things for, eventually i'll get around to making my fiances socks that have been promised but may take a while. i've never made socks before so it should be an interesting experiment.

spring!
in the garden (so far):
red lasoda potatoes
yellow onions
english peas
painted lady (runner beans)
black eyed peas
roma tomatoes
and some others that i'm not sure if they are actually growing or not, i started a bunch of seeds with those peet pellet things and i had no luck with them i can get them to sprout but i can't keep them alive, luckely i live in texas were you have a long growing season so that i canseed directly into the garded.
i do feel like a cheater because the roma tomatoes i bought already started from the garden store , but you do what you gotta do right?
also, thanks to mrs. m we have some lovely flowers in our front yard, every time i walk by them i smile, they relly add some extra cheer to the front of the house.

why the hell is this so hard!
so i think i finally have a wedding venue
and then it turns out they don't allow alcohol!
stupid state parks!
arg! all other venues annoy me or are too expensive
is it so much to ask to have a pretty place were i don't have to use their caterer and spent a butt load of money!
this is why we talked about eloping in the first place
i'm stupid for choosing other wise.

springish
i've been garden happy the past few days, i'm determined to actually grow a bunch of food this year.
so far i have prepared most of my garden bed, with homemade compost (of course) and laid out the garden in a square footish method using the many stones and pavers scattered around the house.
so far i've planted a bunch of potatoes, some onions, carrots and corn.
i've also planted some cosmos in front of the house, mixed in with the freesia i got from mrs.m.
and some dill, basil, cilantro and black cumin seeds in my herb pots in the back yard
also my awesome fella brought home a gnome for our garden the other night, he's quite adorable and watches over things for me while i'm not in the garden.
one of the few veggies that actually worked out for us last year is this swiss chard (yard chard i call it) . it's a huge plant and i'm trying to use as much of it as possible before it bolts.
today i gave some to mrs.m. when she was over.
if the sun hadn't have gone down i'd still be outside, i hope all of you spent some time out side today, lovely days like this don't last long in texas it will be hot before we know it.

speedy service
well ,the water people seem to have fixed my problem already, so tomorrow will be spent in the glorious sunshine.
i love having a yard, maybe this year i can expand the garden, i wonder if i should ask the owners of this house first, or maybe i should get a plot in the community garden, i've had a plot in a community garden before in chicago, but i never had much follow thought in those days, so maybe this time it will work out better, but i should start with my yard first.

getting ahead of my self
today we went to callahans just so gus could check the place out and i end up taking home some hardware fabric( to make a compost screen) , onion seedlings and a few seed potatoes.
unfortunately i can't plant anything because i think we have a water main leak making the garden plot a bit muddy, and we have to wait for the city to come by and look at it before i can do anything.
blerg
at least i got to go to callahans and get extra excited for growing things, and then canning them.

spring?
texas weather as always is a bit insane, today it hit 90 degrees and it's not yet march. it disturbs me a little , ok more than a little.
but i'm not going to dwell on it ,well ,not here.
good news!, my garden is partially laid out, i'm trying out the square foot gardening method, it already feels as if i'll have a better garden than last year. i learned a lot from my gardening mishaps of last year.for example, start earlier than april, i already have tomatoes and coosa squash sprouted. i think i'm going to start some other seeds tomorrow.
also! my brother is getting married in june, thats right before his big sister!
but it's cool, i get go go wedding shopping with my future sister in law ( who i love), my mom and my aunt.
yea! i'm so excited.

wedding planning begins
i've decided it's time to get serious. so i have started with venue and i think I've found the perfect place but i still have to go and give it a look. it's in the woods, cheap, and has real bathrooms
i'm excited, and i think i've also decided to make the invites, nothing too crazy like printed up on the computer and decorated with some stamping.
i can't draw and i don't want to go too nuts with the invites because a lot are going out.
i have the dress style in mind and will be out at the dress stores with my mom in a couple of weeks.
and gus has come up with ideas for the detroit party as well.
things are moving.
i don't think we are doing a bridal party, no specific colors so far and the whole think will take place septemberish.
my mom has some left over things from her wedding 2 years ago that i plan on digging through to see what we can use.i think my next move is to keep and eye out for some vintage vases for decorating.
that's it so far.

happy new year!!
so i started off new years day feeling pretty down.
i'm not sure why it's just how it goes some times, i've been in such a great mood for a while now (i think giving up the sodas had a lot to do with it, now if only i could cut down on the refined sugar)
but today is way better, i have been re inspired by a few things.
not many people know this about me, but in spite of never having any children i'm a bit of a birth dork, many years ago i was a birth partner for a friend and though i didn't get to see the very end result(she had an emergency c section) i got really into natural childbirth, so much so i toyed with the idea for a long time of becoming a midwife ( read spiritual midwifery by ina may gaskin it is a pretty awesome book).
another thing that ad re inspired me is this urban homesteader blog i've come across to the right margin over there . i can do what i want to do even in a little house in town i don't have to move to the middle of no were.
anyway i'm trying to work on my goals i set out for myself last year, i will become more self reliant, i will spend more time learning and not just sitting idly
and i will plan our wedding
and i will get back into my music, all i have to to is get back on my saddle.
i hope you are all well and that this year you will accomplish what you set out to do
